Using white gloves, visitors to the Furniture Library can examine original works by pioneer designers in our industry. The Furniture Library is one of the few, if not the only, place in the world where design professionals, scholars, students, and members of the public can do so.
In addition to rare drawings and furniture details, the Bienenstock Furniture Library is home to a collection of antique furniture. Anyone who is interested in design will find it to be a treasure resource of inspiration, information, and imagery.
Funds are required for the rebinding and preservation of rare and valuable volumes in the collection, as well as for the funding of the Library’s student furniture design and interior design scholarship contests.
The Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library, which contains more than 5,000 volumes on furniture and design, is the world’s largest furniture speciality library, according to its catalog. Volumes produced since 1543 are included in the rare book collection, which also includes a collection of original works by 18th century furniture masters Chippendale, Sheraton, and Hepplewhite, as well as a full 26-volume set of Diderot’s Encyclopedia, which was first published in 1776.
The High Point Public Library, which is located on the corner of Main and Design Streets in High Point, North Carolina, is open for meetings, design collaborations, classes, and seminars. Seminar rooms, the Hadley Court Center For Design Collaboration media room, and a sculpture garden are among the amenities available.
Despite the fact that COVID hasn’t been the best to the library, Bienenstock was able to conduct their first annual Future Designers Summit as a result of places opening up again. The summit provided an opportunity for 35 students to travel to High Point to learn more about design and to participate in an immersive experience. With the support of many Bienenstock sponsors and other local businesses, the 35 students were able to visit showrooms, go on factory tours, participate in breakout sessions with prominent people in the industry, meet with mentors who will help them learn more about design, and even have their portfolios reviewed by professionals.
At the conclusion of the summit, a $5,000 scholarship was also awarded to one of the students. Bienenstock is eternally grateful for the assistance of the industry and the community in assisting them in putting on such a fantastic event as Bienenstock.
